Is it worth it to buy the Knot's Wedding Flower book, or does the website pretty much say it all?

I flipped through the book at Barnes %26amp; Noble, but it was about $10 more expensive than I wanted to spent. I found it on amazon.com for the price I was willing to pay, but now I am wondering if it is even worth it since the knot%26#039;s website has a flower section that is the exact same as the flower description section.





I liked the book because it was simple and I am just trying to get some inspiration and it had some examples that I really liked for my wedding. I%26#039;m not trying to make my own flower arrangements, just trying to get a better understanding of some flowers that would fit my autumn themed wedding (colorwise) that are fun.





So is it worth the $20, or should I just stick with the website even though I would have to print anything I like and would want to show a florist? It%26#039;s free shipping since I already had some books in my cart that I am buying from amazon.





I value the opinions of people who actually have or have seen this book. I also welcome suggestions on other books

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersIf you could find a gently used one (or new) via Amazon, it%26#039;s not a bad book to have. Sometimes you just like to flip pages through a book as opposed to nagivating through a website. Besides, you could always resell the book back on Amazon for cash or Amazon credit. You can also post on your local craigslist book section to see if someone has a copy to sell for an inexpensive price. Another option is to check the public library-you never know what might be there!

Reply:Definitely stick with the website. It is really comprehensive, and everything on the book is on the website as well. You%26#039;ll probably only need to print out a few inspirational pictures for your florist, so it would be a waste of $$ to get the entire book.loan

I%26#039;ve seen lovely flower arrangements with real fruit in the glass vase. How do you preserve the fruit that is covered with water? In particular I saw one with lemon slices in water and yellow roses in the vase.

Reply:H2O is the preservative, Im sure the dissolved oxygen levels in the water are very small, and oxygen is what what starts breaking them down. They dont last very long though.

Cut flower garden- which plants grow best in the tropics?

I live on a Caribbean island. I%26#039;d like to put in a cut flower garden so I can do flower arrangements. Right now I have a lot of bird of paradise flowers, but I%26#039;m looking for some variety. I%26#039;d like to order some seeds from the US, and pick up whatever I can find locally. But I%26#039;m not sure what holds over well in a vase.

Try gingers, of course birds, orchids grow great here,just to name a few, but the best one is the ginger plant. I love those big red flowers. Also haleconia%26#039;s grow excellent, and make beautiful flower arrangements.

Reply:I am not knowledgable about tropical soils, temps, etc.; but if I lived in the tropics I would get some zinnia (annual) seeds %26amp; pot them up . I think zinnias are one of the best cut flower for a vase %26amp; come in many varieties, colors, shapes %26amp; sizes. The only thing lacking with this flower is it has no scent, so I don%26#039;t know if you are looking for just color , but these would do well %26amp; are fairly easy to grow, have very sturdy stems %26amp; long lasting blooms.loan

Flower arrangement question?

How do you arrange flowers after you buy a bouquet from the grocery store? I have no idea on how to arrange flowers. I would just stick them in a vase and add water but they look tacky cause they%26#039;re not arranged. Isn%26#039;t there an easy technique for flower arranging? Any good websites?

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersPersonally, my favorite flower is alstroemeria. I buy enough so that the stems are tight in the vase, strip off leaves that are below the edge of the vase and put them in the water. Flower arranging is done.

some of the higher end grocery stores (ie Gelson%26#039;s) will hold free floral arranging demos once a month.


right now, hand tied bouquets are very in. you hold ea. stem in your hand as you add the next one in- filling empty spots and spreading color- etc. then you tie it and drop it in a vase. if it doesn%26#039;t look right, try trimming the stems until it fits the mouth of the vase properly.

I%26#039;d like to go to work in a flower shop and I have some natural talent for flower arrangements but I%26#039;d like to learn other thinks like doing funeral arrangements and other stuff. Where can I go to learn how to do flower arrangements like they would do in a flower shop?

Reply:It just depends on where you live. You might check with community colleges in the area. Ours offers those classes for fun sometimes in the summer. Also, you might check in the newspaper once in awhile or even ask flowershops.
Reply:Some Greenhouses and Floral shops will offer training, also ITT will offer classes thru floral shops.


Natural ability is half the battle, working with live flowers is totally different that silks, plus they will teach you to arrange on a numerical pattern, which I don%26#039;t like...
