Is there something you can put i a cut flower arrangement%26#039;s water to prolong the blooms???
Flowers
Reply:put sugar in the water
Reply:The myth buster folks did a check on what to use on christmas trees to keep them fresh. I think they found out the sprays worked best... however, of the things that you put in water, sugar actually made them last a shorter time. I%26#039;ve found that%26#039;s true with flowers too.
People used to put a copper penny in ... I never found that worked.
I%26#039;ve used aspirin... with little success.
The packets that they sell with fresh cut flowers work well. I think they basically contain sugar in a form that%26#039;s usable by plants, an acidifier, and something to kill the bacteria in the water. This works better than the home remedies, which tend to address only one of the needs, and sometimes not well.
Reply:add a couple of drops bleach or milton to the water. It stops bacteria forming, thus no smelly water and soggy rotten stems. Some people suggest sugar etc but I find this simply makes the flowers wilt faster...
Good luck with your daughter%26#039;s entry :-)skin disease
